Finding a Pool Service

As an avid swimmer, I normally frequent pools in my friends houses. However, I remember a couple of incidents, where a bad pool cleaning service had jeopardized our health. From personal experience, I warn people in finding a proper service. The wrong service may not have the knowledge or skills needed to manage and properly care for a pool.

Insurance/Assurance

Make sure the pool cleaning service is reliable. Ask for some of their routine maintenance jobs. If they maintain a public pool somewhere around you, go take a look at their pools. If they do a good job, consider them. Look for references and past history. Make sure you don't rely on online reviews too much, as they can be misleading. Check with the clients, check with other services. See how they rank, and how they go about their job. Some services may cost you over $200 a month. Before you make that deal, check around and do your due diligence.

Price

Make sure you don't pay too much for maintenance. For example, an inground pool requires more money to clean, due to higher cleaning and maintenance cost from insects, and gunk that may be on the surface. An above ground or semi inground pool should be cheaper. Get a quote considering the size of your pool, and how dirty it gets. I have seen prices from around $20 a month, to over $500 a month for bigger pools. Check with other companies and get quotes to help negotiate the price.

Do you need one?

There are many kits and tools out there to maintain your own pool. In fact, you may not even need a pool cleaning service. Automated robots, PH testers, and pool kits can help you save money on a service. Don't be afraid to look around the internet or ask your neighbors. However, if you are inexperienced in maintaining a pool, you may do yourself more harm in the long run by managing the pool yourself, instead of finding a reputable service that can do it by themselves, usually with better tools.

Installation:

The pool service may also be able to aid you in installation. One of my friends has a semi inground pool, where they had a specific pool service install their pool. Consequently, they did their research on the company, and even got a discount on future pool maintenance. Check with the company for deals on installation and further maintenance.

Do you clean your pool by yourself, or use a pool service?
